Name this Plant?

Along the Walker Road, you see these curios looking plants. What are they called?

Mullein -- an import from Europe that's spread all over the country. When it blooms, those wands are covered with small yellow blossoms. The leaves are quite fuzzy and were once used on sore feet.

Yeah, mullein was my guess too - it's also called milkweed. The strange flattened growth is an example of fasciation, a kind of freakish plant growth that may be caused by mutation or insect or bacterial damage.

Milkweed and mullein are not usually considered the same plant. Milkweed, the one monarch caterpillars enjoy is: Asclepias syriaca, and Mullein (like the one pictured) is: Verbascum thapsus.

Just FYI
