Lady Bugs of Spruce Mountain

Every summer tons of Lady Bugs make their pilgrimage to the high country. They hang out right by the very top of Spruce Mountain. Even the Arizona Highways wrote about their interesting journey. I will try harder this summer to capture them, here is one pic from last July, but I think I caught them too late, because there were not too many there.

Spruce Mountain too? My LH and I first saw a ladybug gathering on one of the hilltops near Wilhout, shortly after we moved to Arizona. The next time, they were draped all over the top of Mt. Union. Thanks for the reminder of better days!

The Lady bugs are always there year round. What happens in the colder months is they travel a couple of feet down under the pine needles and lay dormant.
I have been on Williams Peak before in the winter, dug down through the snow and pine needles to find a active layer of Ladybugs.
Try it for your self in a area they have been known to congregate.
