Tomatoes from my garden

I learned something valuable about growing tomatoes this year after talking to my grandmother and my mother. You got to trim out the suckers. In Finland they are called "thieves", because they steal the nutrients from the tomato. So I have been very diligent about keeping the tomato garden streamlined.

This year I am growing butternut squash in the garden among others...mmm....just got done pruning monsterous leaves - hoping to get a decent crop.

Scented Garden

This is part of my scented garden: Lavender.. I planted 6-7 of them and they eventually will grow to a nice size and after a rain or after water they let out a very nice lavender fragrance...

Hornet Drive

Hornet drive is one that we go on when we are too busy to hit the trails and happens to be it is right next door to our neighborhood, therefore we can just ride our bikes from the house. This section of the Hornet drive has always intrigued me. I love to look at this turn as I ride up the hill. It is quite a steep grade so you got to be on a low gear and pedal at one pedal at a time until you get on the top of the hill.

Happy hollyhock day. That is what these hollies say. Very easy to grow. Hardy Arizona flowers and very pretty indeed!

Yucca?

Are these yucca cacti? I am not sure, but they look great in a row in front of this house.

Mt. Vernon Street

Well kept older homes stand along the Mt. Vernon Street.

Horned toad

He lives in our yard and every afternoon he appears on this rock. I noticed how the hind legs are resting on a smaller stone, like a little human. Such a friendly little fella as long as you give him his space.

Saw tooth edge of a pear tree leaf

As I was watering our garden this morning, I noticed the sharp edge on the pear tree leaf and it simply captivated me. the tree is only two years old, but it seems to like it in our backyard.

Up a barren tree

Group of birds have decided to take over a barren tree in the early morning sun. It must feel nice against their dark feathers after a cool night.

Lakeshore trail - the beginning

Goes around Lynx Lake. It is actually paved on one side, wheelchair accessible. THe other side on the other hand is a dirt single track trail.

I'll take off Flying... is the name of the game of this grey/blue heron. It is a very elusive bird. Always flying across the lake...never letting too close.

My favorite friend

This eagle is one of the pairs that come and visit Prescott every year to nest for the season. I happened to be very fortunate one day when he allowed me to get quite close to shoot some pics.

Early morning retreat

Real, real early morning, between the twilight and sunrise it is nice and cool here to take walk or a bike ride so that is what we like to do: race the sun.
